• Promise Armenian Institute Student Research Grant
    $3,000
    UCLA undergraduate or graduate level student research or travel grants of up to $3,000 are available to conduct research in Armenia or on Armenian-related studies during the academic year or the summer. A reference letter from a UCLA faculty member attesting to the value of the research and the student’s capabilities is required.

  • AIA Archaeological Field School Scholarships
    $2,000
    These Archaeological Institute of America scholarships support students participating in archaeological fieldwork for the first time. Funds help cover expenses associated with participating in a field school project (minimum duration four weeks). Students majoring in archaeology or related fields are especially encouraged to apply.

    The Los Angeles chapter of the Archaeological Institute of America offers scholarships to local undergraduate and graduate students who wish to engage in archaeological fieldwork activities.

  • AIA-OC Grant
    $2,000
    The Orange County chapter of the Archaeological Institute of America launched a grant program to financially support southern California archaeology students in furthering their education and experience, and whose research will further the body of knowledge of the human past.

  • Cotsen Undergraduate Research Grant
    $500-2,000
    The Cotsen Institute of Archaeology offers fellowships for undergraduate students who are involved in an archaeological field school or research project. This is a competitive program in which students will be evaluated upon overall academic excellence and commitment to field research. The fellowship is meant to defray costs of participation in an archaeological project, but some exceptions to the off-campus rule may be permitted.

  • Cotsen Graduate Student Research Travel Award
    $500-2,000
    The Cotsen Institute of Archaeology offers financial support to students from any UCLA department undertaking an archaeology-related project, such as archaeological fieldwork, collections-based research, and the conservation of archaeological materials. This award is intended to help defray the costs of travel for archaeological research.

    Applications Due:

    • November 1 for Winter/Spring/Summer travel taking place between January and July
    • May 1 for Fall travel taking place between August and December
  • SCA Rob Edwards Memorial Award
    $1,000
    This Society for California Archaeology grant is designed to support student participation in an archaeological field school. The funding provided by the award aims to help offset various costs, including enrollment fees, necessary equipment, and other expenses associated with attending a field school. Preference will be given to students from community colleges and those of Native American heritage.

  • SAA Student Awards and Scholarships
    $500-10,000

    One in four members of the Society for American Archaeology are students. To support the future of the field and to help today’s students become tomorrow’s archaeologists, SAA awards nearly 20 prestigious scholarships each year. Here are some relevant to students conducting fieldwork in Armenia-

    Arthur C. Parker Scholarship for Archaeological Training for Native Americans (Undergraduate & Graduate): This award supports archaeological training for Native American students or employees of tribal, Alaska Native, or Native Hawaiian cultural preservation programs, up to $6,000.

    Native American Undergraduate/Graduate Archaeology Scholarship: This award supports undergraduate/graduate studies in archaeology. Funding may cover tuition, travel, food, housing, books, supplies, equipment, dependent care, medical expenses, archival research costs, and analysis costs, up to $6,000 for undergrads and up to $10,000 for grad students.

    Historically Underrecognized Student Archaeology Scholarship (Undergraduate & Graduate): This award supports archaeological training or participation in a research program for undergraduate/graduate minority students, including but not limited to tuition, travel, food, housing, books, supplies, equipment, and child care. Any form of archaeological training during the summer may be funded, not just limited to field schools. Amount awarded is up to $3,000 with one to two scholarships available each year.

    Paul Goldberg Award: This award provides support for thesis research, with emphasis on fieldwork and/or laboratory analyses, for graduate students in the earth sciences and archaeology, up to $500.

    Douglas C. Kellogg Fellowship for Geoarchaeological Research: This fellowship provides support for dissertation research, with emphasis on fieldwork and/or laboratory analyses, for graduate students in the Earth sciences and archaeology, up to $1,000.

    Ofer Bar-Yosef Scholarship for Advanced Doctoral Students in Old World Prehistory: The Ofer Bar-Yosef Scholarship acknowledges and supports excellence among advanced graduate students pursuing a doctoral degree on some facet of prehistoric archaeology in the Old World. The scholarship is intended for students who have already completed their coursework and all other requirements for the doctoral degree except the dissertation itself (research and/or writing), given specifically to facilitate completion of the applicant’s doctoral degree. The scholarship is open to students whose research focuses on Paleolithic, Mesolithic, or Neolithic archaeology (or their broadly equivalent temporal or cultural manifestations) in Europe, Asia, Africa, or Australia, as a one-time $5,000 award.
